Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) also known as Depression Relapse Prevention Training, was formulated by Zindel Segal, Mark Williams, and John Teasdale. It combines cognitive therapy and training in mindfulness meditative practices to help people who have recovered from repeated bouts of major depression and want to reduce the risk of relapse. This training can help those people find wise and compassionate ways to handle life, develop new ways of handling depressive thoughts, distressing emotions and anxious feelings so that they are less likely to relapse.
At this time we offer MBCT training only on an individual basis. Typically individual MBCT training begins with one meeting lasting for two
back-to-back 50-minute sessions, followed by shorter sessions determined by the
individual's desires and intentions. The training is similar to MBSR training but includes the exploration/discussion of cognitive behavioral exercises to aid in the prevention of depression relapse. This training
can be combined with psychotherapy.
Fees are based on a sliding scale ranging from $80 to $120 per 50-minute
session and determined by your gross annual income. These fees may be
reimbursable by health insurance.
